The APM has launched the eighth edition of its APM Body of Knowledge 8th Edition, a cornerstone resource for project professionals. This latest edition builds on the success of its predecessor, addressing the evolving challenges of modern project delivery.

The 8th edition introduces deeper explorations into emerging topics such as systems thinking, sustainability, leadership, and – for the first time – data and artificial intelligence.

Scott Walkinshaw, APM’s Head of Knowledge, said, “The 8th edition is the bedrock of knowledge for the profession and ensures we have a common language across sectors, teams and, increasingly, global projects. It’s agnostic to methodologies, providing a high-level outline of what project professionals need to know, with hundreds of further references to help with further exploration of topics.”

The development of the 8th edition was informed by an extensive two-year consultation with project professionals. Feedback highlighted the increasing complexity of projects and the need for greater emphasis on leadership, stakeholder management and sustainability. While these new areas take centre stage, traditional tools and techniques such as governance, project controls, and people skills remain integral to successful project delivery.

Professor Michael Bourne of Cranfield University led the editorial team, ensuring that the updated content aligns closely with APM’s Competence Framework. This alignment supports professionals pursuing Chartered Project Professional status or other APM qualifications.
